Root Words is an arts & culture project facilitated by Vermont Farmers Food Center, Shrewsbury Agricultural Education & Arts Foundation, Shrewsbury Historical Society, WEXP, and many other community members. Root Words shares stories of how people experience their foodways in Vermont and how that experience connects us with our landscape and communities.
The project began in 2017 and has had support from the National Endowment for the Humanities, as well as from this community.
Many community gatherings were hosted as part of the Root Words project including, the Traditions Table dinner series, Stories from the Farm, and the Woven community art project. Many of these events are captured in the images of the Root Words Farmers Hall installation.
The photo installation opened May 1, 2021. The project will continue to grow as a self-guided multimedia installation. Audio elements will premiere on 101.5 WEXP and links will be added to the installation's catalog. Check out the Rutland Herald feature here.
